Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja fired Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria on 21 October 2026. The move came days after Mosiria indicated interest in challenging Sakaja for the 2027 gubernatorial seat.
Mosiria has responded by accusing the governor of sidelining him for nearly three years and threatening to expose alleged mismanagement at City Hall.
With Mosiria now free of county responsibilities, the question is whether he can mount a credible challenge. Sakaja is seeking a second term. Other aspirants are already positioning. The sacking has turned a former insider into a potential rival in a race that will test Nairobi’s political alignments.
