Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company announced on Monday 26 October 2026 that water supply to more than 80 estates and institutions will be interrupted for three days. The shutdown of the NCT-Kigoro-Gigiri-Kabete pipeline begins at 11:59 pm on Monday and is scheduled to end at 11:59 pm on Thursday 29 October.

The Athi Water Works Development Agency is carrying out emergency repair works on the pipeline. Nairobi Water Managing Director Martin Nang’ole urged residents and businesses in the affected zones to use any stored water carefully while the repairs continue.

Areas listed include Riverside, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, parts of Ngong Road, Kibera, Woodley, Adams Arcade, Upper Hill (including Kenyatta National Hospital and Nairobi Hospital), Lang’ata, Nairobi West, Madaraka, Wilson Airport environs, Karen, Parklands, Westlands, Brookside and sections of Lower Waiyaki Way. Diplomatic and institutional locations such as the UNEP campus and the U.S. Embassy are also on the list.

A similar emergency interruption on the same pipeline occurred in mid-October and lasted about 24 hours. Households have been advised to fill tanks and containers before the latest shutdown begins.

The interruption adds to the regular challenges of water supply in the capital, where demand continues to outstrip available infrastructure in many neighbourhoods. Residents and businesses in the listed areas are expected to rely on stored water, private bowsers or alternative sources until supply is restored.

Nairobi Water has directed customers to monitor official updates for any changes to the schedule.
